If there's one wedding vendor whose work directly impacts the results I'm able to achieve on your wedding day, it's the makeup artist. If you love your look, it's likely you will feel confident and gorgeous in front of the camera. I recently got together with Sharon Davis of S Dot Davis Makeup Artistry and asked her what's the biggest piece of advice she had for brides concerning makeup.
"It's really simple, the best makeup begins with beautiful skin."
That is simple, but simple things aren't always easy, so I asked if she could give us her best tips for getting that pre-wedding glow.
In the months leading up to your wedding, your skincare routine should include:
- CLEANSER: Product to remove dirt, debris, makeup from the skin. Learning your skin type will help determine the best type of cleanser for you.
- SERUM TREATMENT: A great way to treat areas of concern such as fine lines, wrinkles, blemishes, dull skin, and firmness.
- MOISTURIZER: Balances the moisture level in the skin as well as balance out the Ph. in the skin. Your day moisturizer should have SPF for overall skin protection.
You may consider Professional skincare treatments by working with a licensed esthetician. This a great way to achieve ultimate skin results. However, you should start any services 3-6 months before your wedding. If you have advance level of skin concerns start earlier. When working with an esthetician, your skin will go through a purging out impurities process. You want your skin to have time to purge, heal, and be in the best condition for your day.
Focus on water intake! Water flushes our system and eating foods with high water levels is wonderful too! Think celery, kale, and watermelon.
All facial waxing services should happen a week before so if there is any reaction to waxing you have time to heal.
Spray Tans should occur 5-7 days before your wedding. Don’t panic! Your makeup artist is loaded with all types of bronzers!
This is a great start to understanding where to begin in this process. So charge forward brides and take control of your beauty journey beginning with your skin. These tips will help navigate you in the process.
I believe in you!
